Prime lens
Superb quality, fast, sharp, lightweight and small
Each of the rangefinder cameras featured on this website has a prime lens. A prime lens is a photographic lens with a fixed focal length, as opposed to a zoom lens which has a variable focal length. Prime lenses are generally simpler lenses in terms of construction and have less moving parts making them smaller and lighter than zoom lenses. The simpler construction also allows them to have a large maximum aperture making them faster than zoom lenses. Most importantly, prime lenses are optimised for their one focal length thus rendering superior quality images and suffering fewer problems with regard to aberrations (any disturbance of rays of light that result in imperfections in the recorded image)..
