LV Tables

An understanding of LV numbers allows you to recognise common lighting values and estimate correctly at exposures without a light meter. For instance, the number for correct exposure of a subject in daylight is LV15.

LV   Natural light
16   Predominantly white image,
    e.g. solid light walls in full sun
15   Bright sunlight (Sunny 16)
14   Hazy sunlight (soft shadows)
13   Cloudy with some light (no shadows)
12   Heavily overcast

8   City lights, window displays
7   Brightly lit streets, fairs and amusements parks
