Polarizer filters remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water and glass. They make images appear clearer with better contrast and increase saturation in colors without altering the overall color balance.

Polarizers need approximately 2 stops of
exposure compensation.

Polarizers are available as Linear and Circular (CPL) and will have equal effect when using vintage mechanical film cameras.
[Circular Polarizers are made of two elements, a linear polarizer and a quarter wave plate which is fixed behind it to transform the linearly polarized light leaving the linear polarizer into circularly polarized light. This eliminates problems that the auto focus and auto exposure systems in modern cameras have with reading linearly polarized light.]
